TUESDAY AFTERNOON BOOK CLUB
If you are looking for a suspenseful novel, the Tuesday Afternoon Book Club would recommend “This Is How I Lied” by Heather Gudenkauf, which was the selection for February. The book, set in the fictional town of Grotto, Iowa, opens with the discovery of an old shoe, an important piece of evidence in a 25 year old unsolved murder. Maggie Kennedy O’Keefe, a detective in the Grotto Police Department, volunteers to investigate the reopened case.
Eve Knox was 16 years old when her body was found in the caves near her home in Grotto, Iowa twenty five years ago. Now detective, Maggie, (then teenage Maggie), was Eve’s best friend and found her body. At the time of her death several in the community were investigated. Eve’s younger sister, Nola and Eve’s boyfriend, Nick, among others were questioned but there was insufficient evidence for any charges. For years Maggie has been haunted by the murder of her friend. Now married and pregnant, the reopening of the case takes her back to that horrible night. Gudenkauf has a special skill of writing a book you won’t want to put down. Follow Maggie as she relives her teenage friendship with Eve and ultimately solves the cold case.
