Tuesday Afternoon Book Club
TUESDAY AFTERNOON BOOK CLUB
Based on an actual newspaper photo in a 1931 newspaper, the sign said, “ 2 children for sale”. Sold on a Monday, takes place in Pennsylvania, but it could have been found most anywhere in the United States in 1931. It is the era of no jobs, scarce food – a country in the midst of a depression. Families were forced to make some very difficult decisions. Struggling reporter, Ellis Reed, sees the sign and snaps a picture mainly for himself and his memories. When the misplaced picture leads to his big journalism break, he only thinks of himself and his career. With a fellow newspaper employee, Lillian, they decide how to help this struggling family only to find the circumstances have changed.
Author Kristina McMorris paints a vivid picture of struggles in the 1930’s. Book Club members all agreed this was a well written book which will touch the heart of all readers. It is available at the LeRoy Public Library. Stop by soon to check it out. Note – the hours have changed. The Library is open 12-7 Monday – Thursday and 9-1 on Saturday. The Library is closed Friday and Sunday.
