Tuesday Afternoon Book Club
The January selection of the Tuesday Afternoon Book Club is a vivid re-creation of
experiences during the Holocaust at Auschwitz – Birkenau concentration camp in Germany.
The author, Heather Morris, tells the true story of Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew, who is
forcibly transported to the camp and put to work as a tattooist, permanently marking his fellow
prisoners. Lale, prisoner 32407, meets Gita, prisoner 34902, during his time there and vows
to survive the camp and marry her.
After meeting Lale and hearing his story, the author wrote this book of Historical Fiction,
telling Lale’s story of love and survival during World War II under the darkest possible
conditions.
This is an excellent well written book about a part of World War II history many of us find
difficult to read about or understand. Call the LeRoy Public Library, 507-324-5641, to reserve
this book or to make an appointment to stop and check out the large selection of books,
magazines and movies available. Our cold winter days are great for reading!
