LeRoy Evening Book Club-Nov. 2019
We had a very entertaining evening, first we were introduced to Joe Pickett, the main character in C.J. Box’s novel “Open Season”. Joe Pickett is the new game warden in Twelve Sleep, Wyoming who is replacing a legend, Vern Dunnegan. Joe is a straight shooter who discovers bribery, endangered animals and several murders. This is a modern day cowboy, murder mystery. Readers learn about guns, going off the grid ,horses and basically becomes a cowboy while reading the story. Secondly we watched “Dumplin” a movie made from the novel “Dumplin” which we read last month. The movie does not follow word for word but does tell the story well. Theme was body image and how you learn to live and accept it. Teenage woes and how to conquer them. Girls enter the Miss Teen Blue Bonnet Beauty pageant to destroy the show but end up taking part and learning a lot about themselves and teamwork. Watching the movie as a group was fun, laughing, crying, talking back to the screen and singing Dolly Pardon songs made the movie and book very interesting. Stop by the LeRoy Public Library and see Ms. Barnes and her Christmas elves and check out a movie or book. Makes winter pass faster!
