Afternoon Book Club
Remember when you were 12 and in Middle or Junior High School and your classmates could be great friends or vicious enemies, depending on the day? The Tuesday Afternoon Book Club read a thriller, set in a small town in Iowa about three 12 year old classmates and friends. “Before She Was Found,” by Heather Gudenkauf is a timely book about relationships, the impact of social media, and the price of needing to fit in.
Cora, Violet, and Jordyn are three girls who are learning about the power of friendship and betrayal. Violet, new to town, is adjusting to a new school and new friends. When the three girls join in a school project they find themselves becoming involved in a horrible situation. What was meant to be an ordinary sleepover, becomes a crime scene when the girls sneak out at midnight to visit the abandoned rail yard. The book not only addresses teen friendships, but the lengths a parent will go to to protect their child and keep them safe, no matter what the cost.
Following a great discussion, Book Club members would recommend this book and others by Heather Gudenkauf. Her books are suspenseful thrillers certain to keep one reading. Stop by the LeRoy Public Library to check one out. The Library is open Monday and Thursday from 10 -7, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 – 5 and Saturday morning from 9 to noon.
