Afternoon Book Club
After reading “The Heavens May Fall” by Allen Eskens in August, the Tuesday Afternoon
Book Club decided to read another thriller by Eskens this month. “The Deep, Dark
Descending”, follows the story of detective Max Rupert who has never fully
accepted his wife’s death three years ago. She was killed by a hit and run in a parking ramp
on the Minneapolis hospital where she worked as a nurse. Although the official record said
her death was caused by a reckless hit and run driver, Max has always felt there was more to
it than that. Haunted by memories of Jenni he is determined to keep investigating and finds
evidence her death was indeed a murder. But now he is so overcome with anguish and
thoughts of retribution that he finds himself on the edge, questioning who he is and what he
stands for.
Author Allen Eskens was a criminal defense attorney for 25 years and has become an award
winning author. He has a new book out this past month. He lives in greater Minnesota and
visited LeRoy this past summer while on a SELCO tour. Book Club members strongly
recommend any book written by Allen Eskens if you love a mystery thriller. Stop by the
LeRoy Public Library to check out one of his books. You won’t be disappointed.
