Afternoon Book Club
TUESDAY AFTERNOON BOOK CLUB
On June 16 USA Today best selling author Allen Eskens visited LeRoy and spoke at the Community Center. His books have won numerous awards. The LeRoy Public Library coordinated his visit. Eskens lives in greater Minnesota and has written several mystery books to date. All his books are set in Minnesota. Some of his characters appear in several of his novels but you can read them all separately.
The Tuesday Afternoon Book Club selected “The Stolen Hours” by Eskens as their June read, so the author’s visit to LeRoy was very timely. In “The Stolen Hours” Lila Nash is on the verge of landing her dream job – working as a prosecutor under the Hennepin County Attorney and settling into a happy life with her boyfriend, Joe Talbert. When a woman is pulled from the Mississippi River, barely alive, things take a personal turn.
Police believe the woman’s assailant is a local photographer, Gavin Spencer, but the case is
difficult to prove. As Lila becomes more determined to put Gavin behind bars, old memories are haunting her. Battling a difficult boss and the ghosts of her past make this a page turning plot.
In visiting with the author one Book Club member commented “This is one of the best books I
have read. How soon is your next one coming out?” Eskens response was that his next book will be available in late 2022. He told the group he usually begins a novel the first of the year and likes to have it ready for bookstores by fall or winter.
If you would like a good mystery check out one of Allen Eskens books. They are all available at the LeRoy Public Library. You will enjoy it!!
